What individual therapy is

Individual therapy, also called individual counseling or talk therapy, is a series of private conversations with a licensed professional. The goal is to understand what drives the way you feel, think, and act, and then make changes that last.

The American Psychological Association describes therapy as helping people of all ages live happier, healthier, and more productive lives. That is the heart of the work at A Happier Me.

Approaches

Tools we may use together

Client-centered therapy

A warm, nonjudgmental space where you lead and your own voice gets clearer.

Cognitive behavioral therapy

Practical skills to notice unhelpful thought patterns and try new responses.

Psychodynamic insight

Understanding how past relationships and experiences shape today.

Humor and perspective

Lightness where it helps, so hard work feels human.

How Ramin works

Ramin's approach is mainly humanistic and client-centered (Rogerian). He believes each person has a unique voice, and his role is to help that voice become more authentic to who you are.

He also uses tools from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and psychodynamic therapy when they fit, so sessions can be practical when you need strategies and reflective when you need understanding. And he uses humor, because getting better shouldn't feel grim.

Signs it may be time to talk to someone

You don't need a crisis to start therapy. A simple check: lately, are there more hard days than good ones? Other signs include trouble sleeping, pulling away from people you care about, snapping at small things, or feeling like you are going through the motions.

If that sounds familiar, a free consultation is a low-pressure way to talk it through. Read more in Anxiety vs. stress: how to tell the difference.

FAQ

Questions, answered

Still wondering about something? Ask during your free consultation.

How long does individual therapy take?

It depends on your goals. Some people come for a few months to work through a specific issue; others prefer longer-term support. You can talk about pacing at any time.

Do I need a diagnosis to start therapy?

No. Many people come to therapy simply because life feels harder than it should. Therapy is not about being labeled.

Is online therapy as effective as in-person therapy?

For many concerns, including anxiety, depression, stress, and relationship issues, research has found video therapy to be comparable to in-person sessions. Many clients also find it easier to stay consistent when there is no commute.

Do you take insurance?

Sessions are private pay (out of network). During your free consultation you can ask about using out-of-network benefits with your insurance plan.

How much does therapy cost?

Individual sessions are $250 and couples sessions are $500. The first consultation is free. Sessions are private pay, and Ramin is an out-of-network provider.

Who can you see?

Because Ramin is licensed in California, he can see clients who are located in California at the time of the session, anywhere in the state, from San Diego to the Bay Area.
